The concepts of Yin and Yang are used to explain the effects of a treatment. The forces must be in perfect harmony for the body’s organs, systems and emotions to be healthy. It is richardwhen the flow of chi is interrupted and energy becomes blocked that imbalance and consequently ill health result. By inserting needles in specific points situated along the meridian lines, the circulation of chi can be altered.

Judi Holt has completed an Integrated Acupuncture Seminar for Obstetrics and Fertility. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in TCM Clinical Gynaecology & Obstetrics. She has specialised in this area for over 6 years. Her patient list has built through word of mouth, with many mothers returning to extend their families.
She uses acupuncture as a safe, natural therapy to help increase fertility and support couples through IVF. In pregnancy, she uses it to help relieve morning sickness, backache, anxiety, pelvic pain and insomnia, reducing the need for drugs. With the stimulation of a point on the little toe, she uses it to help turn breech and posterior presentations from 33 weeks onwards (a treatment now recommended by many midwives).
Many of Judi's patients once they have conceived, go on to use acupuncture as a prebirth treatment from week 36 in preparation for labour. This treatment can help to shorten labour and reduce medical intervention, along with a hands-on guide to acupressure for pain relief during labour. Prior to a medical induction, acupuncture can also provide a more natural induction.
If couples begin a healthcare program 3-4 months prior to conception, it can have a positive impact on the quality of egg and sperm. Even a six week course of acupuncture can help to prepare couples for IVF treatment.

Mark Kiely is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. He graduated from the London College of Traditional Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine in 2007 and has been practising in south London since 2008.
Mark treats patients who come with a wide variety of conditions. These include lower back pain, knee and joint pain, sciatica, headaches, insomnia, chronic chest complaints, menstrual problems including period pain and irregular cycles, and stress and anxiety.
Mark will normally refer patients seeking help conceiving to a TCM fertility specialist. However, he does regularly treat conditions relating to pregnancy, including morning sickness, turning a breech presentation, and inducing labour.
Patients are encouraged to play an active role in their treatment plan, with TCM dietary advice and recommendations and also the prescription of simple Qi Gong postures to practise at home.
There are many schools and styles of acupuncture practised in the UK today. Mark's training was primarily in the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) school. This emphasises the holistic nature of Mind and Body, and thus the protocols and treatments can be effective in treating both musculo-skeletal problems and also more emotional or physiological concerns. A thorough understanding of human anatomy was also a fundamental component of his studies.

Julie has a BSc (Hons) degree in acupuncture from the University of Westminster. Previously, Julie practiced aromatherapy, holistic massage and reflexology for twenty years after a career in dance and teaching dance to children and adults. The decision to study acupuncture was brought about from personal use with acupuncture as a means of pain relief and as a system of healing for musculoskeletal injuries while dancing.
Acupuncture is a safe treatment and used by people for specific symptoms or conditions. It originated in China and has been practiced for thousands of years. A treatment can consist of stimulating acupuncture points with fine acupuncture needles, massage, heat (with moxibustion – a herb) or cupping. These methods are used to encourage the body’s healing response by stimulating Qi, often translated as enerqy.
The treatment is focussed on balancing and improving a person’s overall well being, considering every aspect of a person’s lifestyle, state of health and medical history for each session.
The initial consultation is free. The recommended treatment is usually a minimum of 6 acupuncture sessions. However each person is unique and therefore the number of treatments will vary with one’s healing response.
