Alessia Ranieri strongly believes that each person is unique, and that uniqueness must be nurtured and valued, rather than fixed or restrained. She sees counselling not just as a place to overcome difficulties but also as an opportunity for clients to get to know themselves better, discover their ways and purposes in life and enrich their potential. In particular, she considers counselling as a journey where the client and the counsellor board together, as traveling partners, in the same adventure. What matters the most, is the nature of the journey rather than the specific destination. The travel provides an opportunity to explore the client’s life more closely and to gain a deeper understanding of their difficulties and struggles. Together, will be then possible to overcome those difficulties and plot new routes toward the client’s destinations. In this sense, the counselling journey is a courageous venture.
Alessia has been in clinical practice for some years and she worked with people experiencing a broad range of issues, from physical pains and discomfort (i.e. IBD) to relational difficulties, struggles in finding new paths, anxiety, depression or isolation. Her counselling approach is based on Personal Construct Psychology (Kelly, 1955). She uses the dialogue as a way to comprehend the underlying reasons of the person’s choices and construe new ways of dealing with difficult circumstances or emotions such as sadness, fear, anger, guilt, loneliness, shame, grief, panic or threat.
Alessia is a counsellor psychologist registered with HCPC. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham. As she believes that life is about learning, she keeps studying and training herself as a professional. At the moment, she is working toward a Diploma in Constructivist Psychotherapy while also conducting a Doctoral research in the field of Coaching for Leadership Development.
Alessia offers therapy in English and Italian.
