Alexandra Parker believes in providing a caring, non judgemental and emphatic space for her clients to explore all their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe and warm and friendly environment.
As a person-centred counsellor Alexandra works in an open, non-directive way allowing herself to be led by her clients as she believes they have the complete authority on themselves, viewing herself more as a sounding board. She supports their experiences and enables them to develop a deeper understanding of the things that brought them to counselling while working with them to gain greater self-awareness. She tries to empower her clients whilst also helping them maintain their own autonomy.
Alexandra has always enjoyed working with people and was employed for many years in the West End theatre, which gave her the opportunity to work alongside people from a diverse variety of backgrounds. This gave her an insight into deadlines and high pressure work environments as well as enabling her to work closely with others in teams. The experience also honed her highly effective communication skills. She has also been closely involved with the charity SANDS, supporting parents through child loss, both before and shortly after birth, facilitating a space where they are able to express their grief and talk about their children. This gave her a unique insight and understanding of what is still sadly regarded as a taboo subject.
Alexandra believes that her warm and caring nature coupled with her professional approach, allows her to build up a therapeutic relationship with clients to support them in overcoming any issues they may have. She is a member of the British Association Of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and works within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service in Tooting.
