Anita Cox works in a person centred way, which is a humanistic approach. She aims to help her clients gain self-awareness. This is done by understanding the individual experience from their perspective so the individual feels accepted and able to understand their own feelings. This approach helps individuals to connect with their values and sense of self-worth, enabling the individual to find their way to move forward and progress. She offers a safe and comforting environment for the individual to talk freely about their issues and be themselves. She will be working within the sufficient conditions for therapeutic change in a person-centred model, which are empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence. Anita also will work within the principles of the person-centred model by treating clients with dignity and respect, supporting their perspective, values, beliefs and preferences.
Anita’s background is working in addiction and recovery as a support worker. Anita’s interest and experience is mainly around addiction issues and trauma such bereavement. She understands how addiction can have an impact on the individual and others around them. Anita understands that stress can affect people in different ways. She has experience in coping strategies as to how the individual can manage or overcome stress.
Anita has just finished her first year of her diploma and is a member of the BACP. She works within The Awareness Centre low cost counselling service in Clapham. She is currently working towards her diploma in therapeutic counselling.
