A client’s wish to start therapy may be brought about by loss, trauma, significant life changes or simply, by a desire to live a better and more satisfying life. Whatever the reason that brings the client to therapy, Aurora Gomez aims to provide a safe, supportive and confidential space in which a trusting relationship can evolve. This is in order to enable her clients to think about the difficult issues that have brought them to therapy. Issues may include painful feelings, disturbing thoughts, recurrent patterns of behaviour and / or difficult relationships. They may have been caused by recent events or they may be anchored in the past. Either way, Aurora uses a psychodynamic approach to counselling. This includes exploring attachment patterns as well as becoming aware of the emotional impact that past events and relationships may have in the present. Aurora firmly believes that developing self-awareness and insight is the first step towards long lasting change. Wherever necessary, Aurora can also integrate her approach with simple CBT techniques.
Aurora has a background in Education and has worked in educational settings as a counsellor for fifteen years, supporting both sixth formers and university students. As such, she has a special interest in supporting clients with learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia as well as those with ASD. She has a good understanding of the pressures that students face nowadays and of the complexities of the education system. Aurora also works with EAPs supporting clients struggling with work related issues such as stress, performance anxiety, workplace change and workplace relationships amongst others. Aurora works long term as well as short term (6 sessions). She can provide counselling in English and Spanish.
Aurora is a psychodynamic psychotherapist working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting as well as from home in Morden. Aurora also works in educational settings two days a week. She has a BA (Hons) in Education (1990) an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (WPF London, 2003) and has also completed a Certificate in CBT Skills for Qualified Practitioners (WPF London, 2014). She is accredited by the BACP and is a Registered Member of the BPC.
