‘Before every session, I take a moment to remember my humanity. There is no experience… I cannot share. No fear I cannot understand. No suffering that I cannot care about. Because I too am human’ (Carl R. Rogers)
Barbara Jurczyk provides a safe and non-judgemental therapeutic space guided by the belief that her clients are the experts of their own lives. She is a companion on her client’s journey towards self-discovery, finding therapeutic ways to use internal power and heal past ‘wounds’. Transformation or modification of attitudes and behaviour may be a therapeutic focus.
Barbara works integratively, which means she can bring a Person-Centred approach or a Psychodynamic way of working to the therapeutic relationship you develop together. When working in a Person-Centred way, a client may wish to explore what is going on in the ‘here and now’ by exploring feelings and responses to events and experiences. A client may feel drawn to a Psychodynamic approach, to explore the past and internal and unresolved conflicts which influence present life and choices. The choice is always the client’s, Barbara will only introduce a Psychodynamic Approach if her client wishes to explore the past and gain more understanding from this time. She believes counselling is an opportunity to connect with your true-self, become who you want to be and embrace an opportunity to be reborn and be the architect of your destiny.
Barbara has interests in human psychology, spirituality, mindfulness and existential philosophy. Her background is in Social Work. Working with children and young adults with complex learning difficulties and autism, Barbara has experienced positive changes in young peoples’ lives. She helps youngsters deal with their anxiety, stress and anger by teaching them more positive, helpful and acceptable ways of expressing their emotions and feelings. An Integrative Counsellor, Barbara is registered with the BACP.
