Ben Thornhill is a UKCP trainee therapist and is currently working towards a Professional Doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling. Ben works on either a short-term, or open-ended basis, according to the needs of the person coming to therapy. He works with The Awareness Centre’s Low-Cost counselling service in Tooting.
Ben’s approach is grounded in helping people to discover greater meaning in life. He seeks to provide a space for people to express and reflect-on difficult thoughts and emotions in order to develop a fuller understanding of themselves and how they relate world. Ben firmly believes in peoples’ capacity to face and overcome the anxiety that arises from life’s challenges, once they have the right reasons to do so. It is his aim to enable people to come to a better understanding of who they are and what they want from life and encourages them to choose to create a more meaningful life around what they value most. The most important aspect of Ben’s practice is developing a trusting, honest relationship to help people to feel comfortable in therapy and feel safe enough to say what they need to say to begin the healing process.
With a background in teaching, Ben has experience and understanding of the psychological difficulties of childhood and adolescence, which are often brought with us into our adult lives. He has also worked for a charity helpline dealing with people experiencing suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety, isolation and loneliness.
