Candy Bokungu is an integrative therapist working towards on advanced diploma in Integrative Counselling. This approach offers a service unique and tailored to the needs and goals of each individual client. She works with patients at a GP surgery in Lambeth for The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service and with TAC’s low cost counselling service in Tooting.
The integrative approach employed by Candy puts the client at the centre of the therapy. The client is encouraged and gently guided to express their experiences in their own time and in their own way, leading to inner discovery. Emphasis is placed on giving time to reflect upon different aspects of the issues raised and identified, through exploration of the past and importantly the connection between the past and the present. Candy’s integrative approach is facilitated and enhanced by her calm and supportive manner. She aims to engender a respectful and positive environment for the clients where they can feel at ease to explore their experiences through both reflection and active encouragement.
Before embarking on a career in counselling, Candy has had a varied and interesting occupational history, firstly working in the fashion industry in Milan as both a designer and lecturer / tutor and later running her own business in the retail sector marketing young Italian designers in the UK. Working in this intensively demanding and exacting environment brought to Candy’s attention the effect that this atmosphere had on those around her in terms of self-esteem and self-confidence as well as influencing associated feelings of isolation, loneliness and stress. These are all consequently areas in which Candy now has a high degree of professional interest.
For Candy, effective communication and the facilitation of it is an area that she holds in high regard. She is a keen linguist and is able to offer therapy in both English, Italian and French.
