Claire Dixon is able to provide a non-judgemental and compassionate space for any issue or concern the client would like to explore. Working from a background of psychodynamic theory, Claire believes that many problems that hold clients back are rooted in their past; within both childhood experience and from learnt patterns of behaviour. Through counselling, issues that are not always conscious to the client can be brought to awareness and explored in a safe environment. Claire has an empathic and sensitive manner and is able to understand and respond to every client’s unique needs.
With extensive experience and many years within a teaching environment, Claire has worked with individuals of all ages and from a wide range of backgrounds. She believes in the importance of creating a good rapport with clients which in turn helps them to develop their potential and overcome self-doubt. This relationship is enabled by allowing each client the time and space to identify issues that are potentially holding them back, to fully listen to each individual and make sure they feel heard. Claire understands the importance of working at the client’s own pace and not rushing them to express how they feel. Often difficult feelings that are rooted within past relationships take a longer time to surface; Claire’s psychodynamic approach affords the client a way to connect these experiences to their present situation.
Claire is currently completing a diploma in psychodynamic counselling. She is working within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Tooting offering open-ended therapy and is a student member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
