David Mayes is a person-centred therapist and this means that he provides a safe and confidential space for clients to allow them to open up and explore what they wish. He achieves this by working to truly understand what is going on for the client so that they feel seen and understood. He helps clients to raise their self-awareness, allowing them to understand more about themselves and the world around them. David empowers clients to make the decisions they want to, thus facilitating growth and change.
David understands that counselling can be daunting for some and they’re unsure of what they’re meant to do and what happens in a session, he alleviates this by creating a warm and friendly environment that is pressure free and welcoming. David has a background in working with substance misuse and is now branching out to work with bereft clients. He is a kink friendly counsellor with an interest in video game addiction and working with homeless people.
David is a is a member of BACP. He sees clients at a GP surgery in Lambeth with The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service. David is currently finishing his diploma in person-centred counselling.
