Dee Mapp offers a safe, supportive and empathic space where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgement. Dee believes passionately in every person’s ability to achieve their full potential, and the role that effective counselling can play in this. She has a firm belief that no two people are the same and as an integrative counsellor, uses both person-centred and psychodynamic therapy, tailored to suit the individual needs of her client. Dee works on the basis that counselling is not about ‘fixing’ people, but an opportunity for clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, increase their self-esteem and self-worth and build coping mechanisms for tackling emotional and relationship difficulties. By exploring childhood, former relationships and past life events, Dee helps clients to gain insight into their inner selves and adopt healthier patterns of thought and behaviour.
Dee has had a long and varied Civil Service career, working at the heart of central Government in Whitehall. Working in areas as diverse as law, communications, and policy and with over 10 years of senior management experience, she has a strong interest in workplace issues – including work related stress, anxiety and conflict management. Dee also uses her experience of mediation and conflict resolution to help clients to work on family related issues, including relationship breakdowns. She also works with clients to focus on issues of self-worth and self-esteem. Dee has a particular interest in emotional issues surrounding long term illness, especially cancer.
Dee is an Integrative counsellor, combining Person-Centred and Psychodynamic modalities. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting. Dee is a member of BACP and is currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
