Dr Jacob Choi
Jacob Choi likes to be invited as a fellow traveller. Where, then, does he want to go? The destination is Truth (as well as Wisdom, Humility, and Responsibility) in accordance with ancient wisdom (both western and eastern). He has learned from experience that people often repress their difficult feelings rather than being honest with, and accept/welcome, those feelings. He also witnessed repeatedly that growing truthful with the self (in terms of feeling and thought) is an important way to heal emotional wounds.
Jacob received a PhD in Philosophy before his psychotherapy training and, so, considers developing the ability to see things from alternative perspectives crucial for mental health. This sounds very much like CBT. Indeed, there are striking similarities between CBT and philosophy. That was reason why Jacob decided to take up the training in the approach to psychotherapy other than CBT and Existential Approach (i.e., part of philosophy). This enables Jacob to formulate a treatment plan tailor made to the specific need of each client.
Jacob is an integrative psychotherapist working in private in Hammersmith and in Hoxton. He has a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a post-master’s Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (that include CBT, Psychodynamic, Existentialism, Gestalt, etc.) He is a registered member of UKCP and BACP.
