Effie Ekpo provides a non-judgemental space where you can be heard. He presents a secure and welcoming environment where you can express yourself, be yourself and explore your world. In this contained space, you can lay out the issues that trouble you, discover strengths you did not realise you have and scream at the madness of this world if you choose to.
Effie believes the therapy room is the client’s place to be seen, heard and supported. As an Integrative Transpersonal therapist, he could use a person-centred approach where the client is in control only going where they want to, but being supported if they wish to go that step further. Gestalt is used to help the client develop empathy and understanding. Work in an existential approach helps make meaning of the world and it’s challenges as it presents itself today. Using the integrative approach, the client is met with the appropriate tools to match their individual circumstances. The client’s need determines the style of approach, it is about the client not the philosophy.
Effie has worked in theatre as a freelance actor for over 15 years. As a driving instructor who has taught over 1000 people to pass their driving test, he holds a master’s degree in driver behaviour and education. He has a deep interest the highs and lows of emotional turmoil. He knows the pressure of personal challenges, perceptions of failure and the deep anxiety this causes. He understands the stress involved in needing to meet expectations, negative thoughts and doubts that get in the way of happiness. Effie helps the client to see the pressures they are under and work to create strategies to manage these for a fulfilling and rewarding life.
Effie is working towards a post-graduate diploma in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is a member of UKCP. As an integrative therapist, he draws on the approach that best suits the issues that the client brings. He works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service in Clapham.
