Fabio Valenti provides a non-judgemental space for clients to use to explore whatever issues they are facing. Fabio is able to facilitate the important journey towards healing and self-discovery using a Psychodynamic approach in which clients take the therapy in the direction they choose. Fabio works closely with symbolic associations, and so his working style is a creative one in partnership with his clients. It is best suited to those who are ready to take an active position in a journey of great importance. Fabio believes that whatever someone’s identity, there is a ‘true self’ that is trying to emerge, and aims to help this self be born from out of the suffering of the past from within the individual. Fabio works with all races, genders, and sexualities.
Psychodynamic therapy is an intensive form of psychotherapy, modelled closely on psychoanalysis. It uses a theory of the unconscious mind, and is equally concerned with the past as well as the present. Psychodynamic therapy deals with issues that have often been present for many years, and is thus is a long term commitment that can be challenging, but also provides great reward and lasting change. Although it does not usually give advice or instruction, Fabio believes it is the most effective form of therapy for those who are ready to explore themselves on a deeper and more meaningful level. Fabio works within this model in a compassionate and supportive way, allowing clients to discover their own truth which, although often painful, is the way to healing and freedom.
Fabio is currently in his final year of a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Practice at the University of Oxford. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling from the University of Oxford, and an MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalysis from UCL. Fabio works on an open-ended basis with The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting and with NHS patients at a GP surgery in Wandsworth.
