Gilly Pinkham is a Person-Centred counsellor who strives to understand your perspective on your experiences and to offer a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can explore whatever is troubling you. Person-Centred counselling doesn’t rely on the counsellor interpreting your thoughts, but rather on the belief that you are the expert in your life and that the most effective therapeutic relationships are those which are equal and built on trust. Gilly’s work is underpinned by genuineness, empathy and unconditional acceptance of her clients. She finds that once clients feel accepted for who they truly are, they can begin to understand why they feel the way they do and can find their own way to move forwards. She understands that taking the first step towards seeing a counsellor can be daunting, but has experienced first-hand how transformative counselling can be.
With a background as a marketer, Gilly has always enjoyed working closely with other people and watching them flourish. She is keenly aware of the pressures of modern life and of how it feels to juggle commitments both at work and at home. Her experience has taught her that everyone is unique and has left her with a desire to help people to lead a more fulfilling life. She supports clients in developing their self-esteem, and has experience working with eating disorders and depression.
Gilly is a Person-Centred counsellor and is a member of the BACP. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham. She is currently working towards her BA (Hons) degree in Person-Centred Counselling.
