Irene Brown-Martin is a highly skilled psychotherapist trained in a variety of psychological and counselling therapies. Her work involves helping children, adolescents, and young adults who are dealing with depression, schooling issues, work issues, transitions, peer relationship difficulties, communication difficulties, loneliness and isolation. Her clinical skills and empathic approach enables her clients and their families to feel at ease with her in discussing their concerns. Irene brings a warm non-judgemental attitude and insightful mind to guide her clients through the process of defining the problem, deciding how best to approach it, and agreeing a focus for treatment. Irene can work longer-term, psychodynamic counselling and time-limited, Interpersonal Psychotherapy to work towards more specific therapeutic goals.
Irene is a specialist in treating adolescent depression. She has 11 years of experience working in child and adolescent mental health service as well as in schools. She has extensive experience in the assessment and management of self harming, suicidal ideation, behavioural and mental health difficulties across the age range and level of complexity. Her areas of specialist interest and expertise include, early intervention and prevention of mental health difficulties. She is particularly interested in working with clients experiencing relational difficulties, communication issues, loneliness and isolation and clients struggling to adjust to life changes. Irene draws on interpersonal psychotherapy, psychodynamic counselling and play therapy to work holistically to deliver an effective treatment for her clients.
Irene is an accredited Interpersonal Psychotherapist for adolescent depression. She trained at the Anna Freud Centre and UCL. She is also MA qualified in Psychodynamic Counselling from Goldsmiths University. Irene is a registered member of BACP and works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham. She also works as a senior Psychotherapist with an education and social inclusion charity.
