James McCarthy - NHS Team Leader Lambeth

James McCarthy is a Team Leader for the NHS Lambeth Talking Therapies Service within The Awareness Centre. He supports our student therapists with their admin duties on placement and provides training before they start working with clients.  James also holds a case load of clients within the NHS service.

When James worked in film production he decided to embark on a journey of self-development as he became interested in the ability to change; and men’s mental health.  Through his own personal experience of therapy, he enrolled onto a three year counselling course and is now a qualified and registered Integrative Counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, BACP.

James has previous experience of working as a therapist within the NHS service in Croydon and for other organisations supporting clients with many issues.  He has a special interest in working with abuse, anxiety, bereavement, depression and trauma as well as working with those from the LGBTQIA+ community.  James also works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham.
