Jeni Summerfield offers a non-judgemental space in which her clients can work through painful or difficult experiences with warmth and kindness. She aims to provide a secure base in which it is possible to slowly build trust in an on-going therapeutic relationship, empowering the individual to develop the internal resources to cope with the many challenges that life brings. She will listen carefully to whatever her client needs to talk about, without fear of judgement and explore together any difficulties.
Jeni uses a psychodynamic approach to counselling, believing that childhood and past experiences can have an influence on present patterns in relating and decision making. She feels that enabling her clients to develop self-awareness and reflect on their past can offer them a deeper understanding of themselves, and provide the clarity to lead a fuller life.
With a background of having worked for many years in a one-to-one client environment, Jeni feels that building a good rapport is essential to the counselling process. The ability to relate to her client’s feelings and thoughts creates a mutual understanding based on empathy and trust. Jeni has gained experience counselling within the voluntary sector working with a wide range of clients offering emotional support to people from many walks of life.
Jeni is a psychodynamic counsellor working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting. She has a Diploma in psychodynamic counselling which is accredited by the BACP.
