Jennifer Cox is a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists, and is registered with the BACP and the BPS. She is a Registered Scientist with the Science Council, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Tavistock Clinic. She underwent a following two year qualifying training with the Trust, and now works in private practice in three London locations, including The Awareness Centre.
Jennifer’s experience of working in secure hospitals and wards for people with severe psychiatric illnesses lends her a straightforward and clear approach to therapy. She encourages honesty in the room, and helps clients to look at aspects of themselves and their lives which they may feel an instinct to bury. Once these issues have been aired and worked through, it can bring significant relief to the client’s negative symptoms and behaviours. This may take time, and Jennifer’s calm and patient approach supports the client through the process, allowing people to work at a pace that fits with them.
Since graduating from Cambridge University in 2000, Jennifer has worked extensively in psychology roles in psychiatric and forensic mental health settings across London. Jennifer completed her counselling and psychotherapy training at the University of London and the Tavistock Clinic, which conferred membership of the British Psychoanalytic Council. Jennifer’s interest in psychoanalysis is fused with her adherence to the findings of neuroscience, and she is an attendee of the London Neuropsychoanalysis Group. These combined interests inform her work and as her client, you too will benefit from this learning.
