Jyoti Sagar is an Integrative counsellor. She is currently completing a BACP accredited Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is a student member of the Black African and Asian Therapists Network (BAATN) and works on an open ended basis with The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting. Jyoti is committed to working in line with the BACP ethical framework, in ensuring the safety and well-being of her clients.

Jyoti offers counselling in an empathetic, non-judgmental environment in which you can work together to better understand whatever might be troubling you. A safe and healing space where difficult experiences, thoughts or painful feelings can be voiced and given space. Jyoti will work collaboratively with you, by focusing on developing an honest therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect. She believes that through talking therapies, we can slowly begin to understand the processes and patterns at work in our lives. It is through this awareness that we give ourselves options, the power to change, to grow, and the opportunity to accept ourselves with greater compassion.

Jyoti holds the fundamental belief that whilst there are common elements to the human condition, we all have a unique experience and perspective . As an Integrative counsellor she uses a variety of theory and techniques to enable you to explore yourself in a way which has meaning for you as an individual. These include a Person Centred approach to explore your experience and build a strong alliance between client and therapist, a Psychodynamic perspective to work with childhood experiences and to help identify the unconscious processes that perpetuate your difficulties. As well as Mindfulness and cognitive techniques to help to improve your state of mind and shift negative thinking patterns. Jyoti believes that by learning how we relate to ourselves and others leads to increased freedom and choice, and in turn a renewed sense of purpose, vitality and connection to life, and more satisfying relationships.

Previously to training as a therapist Jyoti worked in the commercial arts sector and as a yoga teacher. With a particular focus upon using yoga and mindfulness to assist people with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Jyoti is from London and has also lived extensively abroad and worked with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. She has experience supporting people with a wide variety of issues from low self-esteem and depression, to anger, isolation, anxiety and bereavement.
