Kate Stewart offers a safe space for clients to express themselves and feel heard in an authentic and non-judgmental way. Kate believes that a trusting and empathic relationship is an essential element of counselling and aims to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with each client. As an integrative practitioner, she works collaboratively with the client to reach their goals and adapts her approach to meet their individual needs. She incorporates elements from several modalities including existential, person-centred, Gestalt, cognitive behavioural and solution-focused therapies. In this way, Kate supports clients to develop greater insight into their problem, increase self-awareness, resolve inner conflicts and appreciate their existing strengths and resources. She aims to help clients to help themselves and provide them with emotional support while they develop practical tools and skills to address their issues in a healthier way.
Kate has worked as a student nurse in Ireland and provided support to patients and families when faced with situations such as learning a diagnosis, dealing with a loss of independence, or feeling frustrated with being in hospital. This experience instilled in her the importance of a holistic approach to wellbeing. Kate has also been involved in LGBTQ+ groups in various roles which have included organising educational workshops and social events, offering peer support and setting up a university-based befriending service. Kate has a special interest in illness, sexuality, anxiety and depression.
Kate is a trainee integrative counsellor and is a student member with the BACP. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham. Kate has a degree in Health Sciences and is currently working towards a master’s degree in integrative counselling and coaching.
