Katy Swoboda provides a non-judgemental, safe and welcoming environment in which clients can explore their difficulties and problems, and feel understood and supported. Katy believes in everyone’s capacity to use their inner strength in service of living a fulfilling life and she supports clients to trust and build on this capacity.
Katy works in a holistic and embodied way; she invites clients to explore their feelings, thoughts and body sensations which can help clients gain more clarity and understanding of themselves and of their relationships with others. Sometimes these explorations take a form of creative exercises in which clients are invited to try something new. Katy also appreciates the importance of the present and past contexts of clients’ lives – these can often shed light on the experienced difficulties. She works in collaboration with clients in regards to their therapeutic expectations, hopes and goals. Katy also sometimes uses mindfulness exercises to encourage grounding in therapy sessions.
Katy’s professional background ranges from customer service, research in linguistics and psychology through to teaching. Katy grew up in Poland and has lived in the UK for the last 15 years. The mix of these two socio-cultural influences highlights for Katy the importance of personal power, freedom, integrity, and expression of individuality all of which inform her therapeutic practice. Katy has experience with working with anxiety, depression, guilt and shame and self-esteem.
Katy is a Gestalt psychotherapist and a member of the UKCP. She is working towards an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy. She sees patients at a GP surgery in Wandsworth within The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service.
