Kim Goodwin-Wheatle is devoted to providing an empathic and authentic setting where her clients feel safe, understood, and accepted for who they are and how they feel. Her approach recognises and navigates the importance of cultural differences and diversity in the helping relationship in respect of gender, sexuality and ethnicity. She aims to support clients to attain a clearer understanding of their cognitive and emotional state, in the belief that self-awareness leads to self-healing. Kim works in a non-directive manner to create and maintain relationships with clients which aid in them facilitating their desired life changes and finding fulfilment from their personal potentials.
Kim’s background lends a unique perspective to her work as a therapist, coming from a mixed heritage family she has first-hand experience dealing with cultural barriers to therapy. Professionally, a background as a Human Resources Practitioner, provides a basis for Kim’s interest and experience with conflict resolution and work life balance. Providing support during times of extreme upheaval such as births, deaths, divorces, financial distress, long term sickness, and anxiety she understands the ways in which life stressors can bring about unhealthy coping mechanisms and aims to aid in the client identifying healthier ways of managing stress and anxiety.
Kim is currently working towards a London Foundation Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy and London Diploma in Psychosexual & Relationship Therapy, and is registered with the COSRT. Working Integratively, but with an emphasis on Person Centred Approach to Therapy she works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham.
