Laura Kheirkhah values the idea that individuals are experts of their own lives and therefore aims to work collaboratively with her clients in order to explore any issues or feelings presented together. She uses a non-directive approach to counselling, enabling clients to move at their own pace and in a direction they feel comfortable with. With the belief that a strong therapeutic relationship is integral throughout the counselling process, she strives to provide a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space in order for her clients to feel heard and accepted in times of distress. Laura uses an integrative approach that draws on different modalities of counselling to, if desired, explore self awareness, past experiences, current difficulties and future possibilities. She recognises that as unique beings, with varying goals and life experiences, therapy needs be tailored to the needs of each client individually.
Having worked as a family support worker and often helping to facilitate positive family contact, Laura has an understanding of family dynamics and the difficulties of navigating relationships. Her previous roles have enabled her to work closely with people from different religions, cultures and backgrounds as well demonstrating a strong ability to form relationships characterised by empathy, acceptance and genuineness. Additionally, previous roles have included supporting clients with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, as well as through life transitions such as parenthood. She also has experience working in a school with young people on the autistic spectrum and a range of other learning difficulties.
Laura is an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and is a member of the BACP. She is currently working towards a Masters in integrative counselling and psychotherapy and works within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service located in Clapham.
