Laura Starkie offers a welcoming space where her clients can be seen, heard and supported. She believes in the value of each individual, and in treating them with respect. Laura provides a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space for her clients to feel able to share their thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Laura uses a humanistic approach to therapy, specialising in Transactional Analysis and Attachment, but also uses alternative approaches to help clients. Laura uses mindfulness to help with anxiety, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help identify patterns in thoughts and behaviours, and Self-Compassion focused therapy which supports her clients in building self-esteem and confidence. Throughout therapy, Transactional Analysis can be used to address interactions and communications with the purpose of establishing and reinforcing the idea that every individual has capacity for positive change and personal growth. Laura works with clients to build more awareness of their internal resources, to help them empower themselves by understanding how they manage their relationships.
Having worked in a local hospice for over 10 years Laura has learned how to support individuals in distress. Supporting clients and their families has provided her with vast experience in supporting people through complex grief and trauma. Laura has experience working with family and relationship issues, traumatic grief, depression, anxiety, post-natal depression. She places unconditional importance on the quality of the therapeutic relationship, in the belief that the most profound and powerful change happens through the experience of relating to another person.
She sees clients at the Low Cost Service Counselling in Tooting as well at the Awareness Centre’s NHS Counselling Service in Wandsworth. She is working towards the MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute.
