Leo Conville creates a sincere and non-judgmental space in which clients can explore current difficulties and resolve life issues. He believes in the value of working through difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that supports the realisation of potential and makes space for the possibility of change. Leo draws on both a humanistic approach, which works to appreciate the client’s innate individuality and capacity for growth, and with psychodynamic theories, which enhance awareness about how our unconscious conflicts and past experiences sometimes affect our current behaviours and relationships. Further to this Leo has an interest in eastern philosophy and believes that self-reflection becomes more transformative when accompanied by other therapeutic techniques of body and mind, such as mindfulness, meditation and yoga.
Prior to training as a therapist Leo was involved with the performing arts, and so is familiar with the added stresses and strains that can come with following a creative path. Leo has experience in helping deal with relationship troubles, challenging family systems, co-dependence and addiction and wants to offer support and healing to those who struggle with difficult patterns, depression and anxiety. Core to Leo’s therapeutic ethos is that no one need experience anything alone. Leo is also a keen meditator, yoga enthusiast and is committed to continued self-development and mindfulness.
Leo is working towards his Diploma in Transpersonal and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and works integratively, drawing upon different approaches in order to best suit a client’s needs. Leo is a student member of the UKCP and works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham.
