Lisa Van Hemert
Lisa van Hemert works as an integrative counsellor, with a strong foundation in the person-centred approach. She is working towards a Masters’ degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and is registered with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), with a view to achieving her professional accreditation. She works with clients through The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service at Southfields Surgery, Wandsworth, London.
Providing a caring, empathetic and supportive space, Lisa sets out to provide an environment in which her clients feel safe enough to explore and work through what it is that is causing them pain and/or holding them back. She believes that core to the therapeutic experience, is the relationship that develops between the client and the counsellor; working closely and collaboratively with them and working towards a place where they can live a more satisfying and balanced life.
Based at the Institute of Psychiatry as a research radiographer, Lisa has a strong working knowledge and understanding of the individual needs of those with mental health difficulties. Furthermore, having worked as a Samaritan for the past five years, as well as with Mind for over a year, she also has experience of working with clients in extreme emotional distress and those facing highly challenging life situations and difficulties. During her professional career as a radiographer, Lisa has also worked abroad extensively, giving her a deep appreciation of the challenge’s individuals may face when transitioning between cultures and different ways of living.
