Maria Barletta draws on a wide range of helping modalities to facilitate change in her clients, offering a safe space to explore the issues that they bring to therapy. She believes that clients have all the resources they need to bring about clarity and healing. Maria compares her role to that of a midwife, helping clients to restore the connection to their inner thoughts and emotions, giving birth to a new way of being in the world. Trained in the Integrative approach to counselling, she brings the wisdom of different schools of thought to the sessions, acknowledging that each client is unique. She believes that the “magic” of therapy is found in the safe space of the sessions and in the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client.
Maria lived in four countries before settling down in the UK. With a background in Language Teaching, she has fulfilled a variety of roles that provided her with very valuable life experiences. Maria has also a deep understanding of spiritual concerns and has herself been on a life-long spiritual quest to understand the nature of the human condition. This eventually led her to train and qualify as a Transformational Life Coach, NLP Practitioner and Clinical Hypnotherapist before she decided to train as an Integrative Counsellor. Through personal experiences, Maria has developed a deep understanding of experiences of bullying, abuse in personal relationships, lack of self-esteem and issues with body image. Living in different countries has also helped her understand issues of loneliness, isolation and cultural diversity. She is currently working on a book to help victims of bullying.
Maria is training as an Integrative Counsellor and is registered as a student member with the BACP. She is also a qualified Coach for Personal Transformation, and a Clinical Hypnotherapist. She works within The Awareness Centre’s NHS service seeing patients for counselling at a GP surgery in Lambeth.
