Mark Mahoney’s first step in helping clients is to establish a relationship based on trust. This helps individuals to feel comfortable in discussing their concerns and feelings. He provides his clients with a warm environment where they can experience being heard. Mark uses an integrative approach to therapy which means he draws upon different ways of working dependent on the client’s needs. This may mean he will work with his clients on a long term basis by examining the root causes of an issue, or on a short-term basis to support clients in managing their anxiety.
Mark has 15 years of experience as a team leader. Subsequently, he has great experience of working one to one with people. This is one of the reasons Mark decided become a counsellor, he has a passion for listening to people, giving individuals the time and space to explore their concerns. Mark has also experienced dementia within his family and growing up with this led him to develop a high level of empathy for others. Mark is amiable and friendly, he endeavours to help his clients understand themselves more and take important steps to resolve issues which are causing them anxiety, low self-esteem or depression.
Mark is an integrative counsellor and is a student member of the BACP. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting and is currently working towards a Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
