Matias provides an empathic, non-judgemental space for the client to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment, knowing they will be fully heard and supported. As a Gestalt counsellor, Matias is interested in working in the “here and now” with the client, building a supportive relationship to encourage an open and experiential dialogue between himself and the client as a way of helping them live a more satisfying, creative life.

By bringing awareness to the client’s internal thoughts, processes and patterns through the counselling work in a safe environment, he believes the client is able to gain power and autonomy over their life and deal with the challenges and dilemmas they face with more confidence.

Born and raised in Argentina and moving over to the UK as a teenager, Matias knows the challenges of moving to a new country, finding his place in the world and he understands how unsettling it can be. After almost a decade working in a high-pressure company, he also knows the impact a stressful career can have on a person and how hard it can be to find the balance between our personal and professional responsibilities in order to live a fulfilling life. These experiences have given him an insight on how anxiety, stress and feelings of isolation can lead to unhealthy coping strategies, and how through counselling we can increase our awareness to deal with them in a safe, supportive environment. He also has an interest in issues of self-esteem and substance addiction.

Matias is a Gestalt counsellor and BACP member. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Tooting. He has a Certificate in Humanistic Counselling and is currently working to a Diploma in Counselling and accreditation. He is bilingual and can work in English and Spanish.
