Maureen Forgie uses the person centered approach to counselling and believes that when clients are truly heard, they are able to make sense of the thoughts going through their mind. This also allows clients to take steps towards reducing and managing stress and therefore improving their quality of life. Maureen believes that everyone should have access to a space where they can think their true thoughts and feel their real feelings without the fear of judgement. Maureen endeavours to provide a safe space for her clients.
Maureen feels that it is very important to treat people as individuals and to allow them to tell their personal story without fear of criticism. Her work aims to explore with the client the root causes of their stress, fears and anxieties as well as working with them to find useful ways to manage these issues.
Maureen has worked for an International aid agency for more than thirteen years and has learnt that helping individuals through a crisis involves more than just distributing food, water and clothing items. One of the most valuable lessons she has learnt is that people need support during a crisis and they also need to know that they are not completely alone in their situation.
Maureen works in the Low Cost Counselling Service at The Awareness Centre in Tooting. She is a student member of the BACP and works with a person centred approach. Maureen has a Certificate in counselling skills at levels 2 & 3 and is currently studying towards a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
