Melisha Lawrence has a BSc degree in Psychology and is working towards an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is registered with the BACP and works in line with their Ethical Framework. Melisha currently works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting.
As an integrative therapist, Melisha uses a variety of approaches and tailors it to the client to meet their needs. This allows the therapeutic process to be flexible and client-centred. Melisha aims to provide an empathic and confidential space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings. She believes the therapeutic process can sometimes be emotionally challenging but, when it is explored in a safe and trusting space, it can help clients to develop and grow to live fuller lives. She works with clients to recognise and use their own inner resources to manage their issues and learn more about themselves. Working integratively, Melisha may draw upon CBT techniques to assist clients in identifying patterns or cycles in their thoughts and behaviours.
Melisha has a background in psychology and mental health. She works with adults who have endured mental health illnesses and are working on their recovery; this is what influenced Melisha to become involved in talking therapies. She understands that people experience a range of challenges and a non-judgemental and supportive space can be valuable in order to talk about their issues and identify ways of coping. She has a special interest in stress and anxiety disorders.
