Michael Carrington practices as an integrative counsellor, which means that he works with a variety of therapeutic approaches and methods, and combines them to suit the needs of each individual client. He provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which the client can explore their thoughts and feelings, allowing them to understand more about themselves and their relationships with others. Mike believes that this safe and supportive environment is fundamental for successful therapy, as it allows the client to open up and explore their concerns, and so start to facilitate therapeutic change.
Prior to commencing his counselling training, Mike has always had an interest in psychology, human behaviour and the therapeutic process. He recognises the benefits of self-reflection and is fascinated with how counselling theory can help us to gain a better understanding of ourselves, our history and our circumstances in the present. Mike is passionate about mental health, and before commencing his work at The Awareness Centre, he volunteered at Lifeline, where he provided emotional support to individuals experiencing mental distress. Mike also has experience in supporting individuals with issues surrounding anxiety, isolation and loneliness, sexuality and suicidal thoughts.
Working within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service in Clapham, Mike is also concurrently completing a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. He is a student member of the BACP and works in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework, which helps to ensure safe and ethical practice and also helps to make sure that the client is constantly at the heart of Mike’s work.
