Michelle Fitzgerald provides a therapeutic and supportive space for clients to talk and reflect on what they are bringing to their sessions. She helps them to explore their thoughts and emotions and to look at patterns from the past that might be impacting the present. She sees her role as helping her clients to find clarity and inner peace through non-judgemental and empathic listening. She draws on a psychodynamic approach with the aim of helping clients to get to the root cause of their challenges by bringing the unconscious mind into consciousness. This enables the client to unravel, experience and understand their deep rooted feelings in order to resolve them.
With a background in early years and working as a foster carer, Michelle has an interest and experience in unresolved childhood trauma, separation and loss. She strives to understand the origins of guilt and shame that lead to such as negative self-evaluations which keep one from being their true self. She also works with anxiety, depression and issues within family relationships. She has a special interest in relationship difficulties that may be caused by patterns of relating in the past and in childhood. Michelle also has an interest in helping people overcome addiction, and has experience working with the twelve step program.
Michelle has completed her foundation year and is working towards her diploma in psychodynamic counselling. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Tooting and is registered with the BACP.
