Mihaela has an empathic, calm and professional manner which makes clients feel at ease to explore their experiences, thoughts and feelings, whether they are seeking counselling for the first time or they have been in therapy before.
Building a collaborative, open and authentic relationship is key to her approach. Life’s ups and downs might make us feel overwhelmed, alone or stuck but we don’t need to handle everything on our own. We can’t control life but we can manage the way we respond to what it brings to us. Mihaela believes that therapy is there to offer a non-judgmental, confidential space in order to navigate life’s complexities. She works with her clients to gain awareness of where they are now, where they would like to be and how they might get there. She aims to make her clients feel heard and seen and to develop a greater sense of self-awareness and self-worth. Being an integrative counsellor, she draws from several modalities and therapy techniques to tailor the counselling process to her client’s unique situation and individual needs.
She previously worked for several years as a community interpreter in a variety of settings supporting individuals dealing with family issues, caring for others, and chronic illnesses, amongst other issues. As a therapist she continues to support clients experiencing anxiety, loss/separation, stress or finding themselves in a transition phase of their life – whether linked to work, relationships, parenthood etc. She also brings to the session her experience and understanding of what it is to be a freelancer, a woman and a migrant.
Mihaela works for The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service in Tooting. She is a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is currently working towards the completion of an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Coaching, having previously completed a diploma in Hypnotherapy. She conducts her sessions in English but she also speaks Romanian.
