Nadiya Hussain is an integrative counsellor and a member of the BACP. She works with clients in an open ended basis for The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham. She is currently working towards an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling.

Nadiya provides an open space for clients to explore their feelings and focus on the areas of their life that mean the most to them. Sometimes it can be difficult to talk through issues without feeling judged by others, and sometimes people in our lives are unable to offer the right support for us when we need it. Nadiya supports clients by being an empathic listener works with them to help them understand complex feelings or difficult emotions they might be going through. She also helps clients understand their present relationships by exploring past memories, feelings and events. This can help clients develop better self-awareness in their existing relationships with others. Trust is very important in a relationship between a counsellor and client and in order to help build this, Nadiya works in a transparent way and ensures that the space that she offers is confidential and safe. Her approach is client-led and she will work in a way that suits the individual, ensuring that the clients aim’s are always at the heart of her work. Both long-term and short-term sessions are available, depending on the client’s needs. Nadiya believes that all clients have the potential to achieve good emotional well-being, but they must be supported in a way that brings out the best in them.

With a background as an Operations Manager for a group of residential care homes, Nadiya has had experience of dealing with workplace conflict and the pressures people face to meet the expectations of others. She also has an understanding of how difficulties in the workplace can sometimes impact other areas of a person’s life, including their relationships with people close to them. Nadiya also has also worked within the NHS, with clients experiencing depression, family and relationship issues and abuse. She has also worked with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds and is aware of the challenges and conflicts people can sometimes face coming from a culturally diverse background.

Nadiya offers therapy in English and Punjabi.
