Nadiya Hussain is an integrative counsellor who uses a combination of humanistic and psychodynamic therapy. She supports clients by being an empathetic listener and helping them understand the complex feelings or difficult emotions that bought them to therapy. She helps clients by exploring their past memories and feelings, as this can shed light on difficult relationships they might have in the present. Nadiya believes that better self-awareness and self-understanding can help drive positive changes. Trust is very important in a relationship between a counsellor and client and in order to help build this, Nadiya works in a transparent way and the space that she offers is confidential and safe. Her approach is client-led, and she will work in a way that suits the individual, ensuring that the client’s aims are always at the heart of her work.
With a background as an Operations Manager for a group of residential care homes, Nadiya has become more aware of how problems in the workplace can sometimes impact other areas of a person’s life, including their relationships with people close to them. She is also mindful how difficulties in our personal lives can in turn affect how we are at work. She believes that counselling can be used to process and work through difficult feelings in a safe and contained space that is outside from work.
Nadiya holds an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling and is a Registered Member of the BACP. She has previously worked for the NHS where she offered short-term therapy to clients in Lambeth. She was also based at a Low-Cost Counselling Service, where she worked with clients on a long-term basis. In her clinical work so far, she has provided support for a variety of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, workplace issues, sexual abuse, loss, family and relationship issues. Nadiya works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham.
Nadiya offers therapy in English and Punjabi.
