Nick Rawling is able to combine a number of person centred therapies to create a supportive, warm relationship with his clients. He feels can be challenging at any time and particular life transitions can cause us to become worried and unhappy. Nick’s upbringing with a functionally alcoholic father and his experience as a single parent to three children has given him insights into resilience and the need to communicate feelings and emotions. He feels that we often need the help of someone who is on our side, who won’t judge us at all and will allow us to explore. Nick aims to be that person for his clients.
Nick is a native Londoner and he cherishes the diversity of the city. He trained as a performer and worked extensively as an actor and director. Nick was fortunate enough to work all over the UK and in such countries as Pakistan, Jordan and Argentina under the auspices of the British Council. For the next big chunk of his life he taught Drama and Acting in Further and Higher Education, helping a number of young people achieve their dreams of working in theatre/film and television.
Nick sees counselling as a natural progression and third career for himself, as it uses his qualities of empathic listening and non-judgemental support. The ‘liveness’ of theatre, has always interested him and leads him to an interest in the ‘here and now’ in counselling. Nick works with what is going on in the counselling room and use elements of Gestalt Therapy and Body Therapy along with the core foundation of Relational Therapy.
Nick is an integrative counsellor and is registered with the BACP. He works within The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service in Wandsworth. Nick is currently working towards an advanced diploma in integrative counselling.
