Olga Portela is an integrative therapist who draws on the approaches that best suit the issues that clients bring into the therapy room. She is working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual therapy and is registered with the NCS. Olga works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting.
Olga aims to provide an empathic, supportive space where clients can open up and feel seen and heard for who they truly are. While counselling assists clients attending to feelings, thoughts and behaviours, she believes that therapy can also focus on the potential of her clients. She works with them to identify and draw on their inner resources to live a fuller, more satisfying life. Working integratively, Olga may use a person- centred approach to establish an empathic bond with clients and to facilitate each client’s growth, CBT to help clients identify patterns in their thoughts and behaviours and to help clients dealing with any sexual issues and manage their relationships in a healthier way. Her approach is tailored to the individual/ couple needs.
With a background as a Social Worker working in a mental health setting, Olga has an interest and experience in supporting and promoting the mental health and wellbeing of clients. She understands the internal and external pressures people can put on themselves, which can lead to unhelpful or damaging coping strategies. She works to identify healthier ways of managing emotions and stress. She specialises in individual/couples relationships, and has a special interest in sex and sexual identity issues.
Olga offers therapy in English and Portuguese.
