Paul Gomes strives to provide a therapeutic space that facilitates clients feeling heard; with empathy, openness and honesty at the core of this experience. He is committed to helping people face the anxieties of life and to reflect on and embrace the freedom of choice human kind has. Paul is mindful of understanding the client’s position in the world and their unique identity in relating to themselves and to others. He believes in working with clients to reflect on their current ways of being, enabling his clients to identify and develop further on their internal resources.
With a background as an IT professional in both the financial and non-financial sectors, Paul is fully aware of the stress factors accompanied with working in the modern corporate world. As a working student, Paul also further understands the challenges of work-life balances whilst managing a career and the pressure it places on an individual, including the impact it has on both ones internal and external world.
Outside of his professional work Paul has a keen interest in understanding the lived experience of each person within the adoption triad. He also has a special interest in working with people who have an anxious and / or obsessive disposition.
Paul is completing his doctorate training in counselling psychology and existential psychotherapy, holding a graduate based membership at the British Psychological Society and a student based membership at the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling association. Although Paul is undertaking an Existential training program, he does have an eclectic mind-set in his approach to therapy. Paul is working with The Awareness Centre seeing NHS patients for counselling in Wandsworth.
