Paul Salonia has a non-judgemental, respectful and empathetic approach to counselling. He believes central to all the work that happens through therapy is the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client. A relationship which Paul will thrive to ensure has a foundation of trust & respect. He will provide a safe confidential space where supportive exploration can take place. Paul has an integrative approach as he believes we are all different and recognises individual uniqueness of people. This means he will adapt his method of therapy to suit his client’s needs. Indeed, those needs and pace of therapy Paul feels will always be dictated by his clients.
Paul has worked in finance for a range of industries for all of his working career (20+ Years). For a large part of this Paul has been in management roles. Paul has found that the skills which he has gained through management of people are very transferable to the counselling arena. He would often take up the role as a supportive mentor and coach through his working life. He further developed his skills by taken up volunteer roles. Paul was as a mentor to a young child for two years and worked with the NSPCC as a Childline Counsellor for a further two years. Through the Childline Counsellor role Paul was often faced with a huge range of presenting issues such as stress, anxiety, relationship issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. It was from here Paul realised how powerful it can be for everyone when you have someone in your life who will just listen to you without any judgement and give you a safe space to talk.
Paul is an integrative counsellor and is registered with the BACP. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham. Paul is currently working towards a diploma in integrative counselling.
