Peter Connolly offers a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their experiences and work through whatever it is that may be holding them back from living the life they want to be living. He sees his role as therapist as providing a supportive environment where clients can develop new awareness and insight, which can help them move forward. Peter believes that with the right support, people have an amazing capacity to find their own answers and to be the source of their own healing.
Peter practises relational Gestalt therapy, which means building a relationship of trust, equality and mutual respect between client and therapist. He takes a holistic approach, supporting clients to learn from what they experience at the emotional, intellectual and embodied levels. In addition to exploring past experiences, a key focus is how the client is experiencing life in the here and now.
In his earlier career, Peter lived and worked in many countries around the world. He works as a coach and organisational consultant and is experienced in helping clients explore how wider organisational and social factors are impacting on their current lived experience and well-being. Peter has experience in particular of working with anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, self-esteem, loneliness, relationship and LGBT issues. Peter’s way of working is informed by his yoga and meditation practice and his love of nature and travel.
Peter is a trainee member of the UK Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP). He is currently working towards a Master of Science in Gestalt Psychotherapy. He holds certificates in Psychodynamic Counselling and Organisation Dynamics and in Applied Behavioural Science. Peter sees clients at a GP’s surgery in Wandsworth with The Awareness Centre’s NHS Counselling Service.
