Pol Barrau is a trainee counsellor whose aim is to provide an empathic, sensible and effective service in a space where clients feel safe and encouraged to talk about their personal challenges whilst being seen and heard in a non-judgmental, collaborative and supportive way. As an integrative therapist, he draws on the approach that best suits the current situation that the client brings with the ability to help in making links from the past to present behaviours and thinking patterns.
Pol’s background in the hospitality and services industry has given him a warm, welcoming and calm almost second nature. Through his current training, family and life experiences he’s acquired a special connexion to work with physical and mental health challenges. He has good knowledge of the 12 steps programme of recovery from addiction. Having lived amongst different cultures, he is sensitive towards diversity and multiculturalism. He is also interested in working with the LGBTQ community and other adults presenting gender or sexual identity related issues.
Pol believes in the positive effect of receiving support, and values the courage of each individual to make themselves vulnerable enough to reach out for it. He also believes in the inner power of self-awareness, curiosity and in taking mindful steps with the intention to build a well-balanced future.
Pol is working towards a diploma in Integrative Counselling. He is a student member of BACP. He works on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Counselling Service in Clapham.
Pol offers therapy in English and Spanish.
