Polina Lukanova provides a warm, respectful, and emphatic environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions without feeling judged. She works with the client to explore how past experiences influence current thoughts and behaviour. Polina helps the client to work through and process difficult feelings whilst nurturing the client’s self-understanding and insight. She believes in therapy to be a joined process between client and therapist. Through establishing an honest, supportive, and confidential relationship the client will feel safe to explore and understand themselves better.
Having lived in several different countries throughout her life, Polina has a special interest in life transitions and how people cope with change. She understands how difficult change and adjustment may be and how it can lead to feelings of fear, avoidance and grief. She works to identify and work through the feelings associated with change. Polina specialises in bereavement, having been a bereavement volunteer for Cruse for two years, and has a special interest in trauma (child & adult).
Polina uses a psychodynamic approach to therapy which facilitates the persons insight and understanding. She has had experience working within the East London NHS Foundation Trust mental health services, volunteering for Victim Support, Cruse bereavement care, and has previously worked within The Awareness Centre’s low cost service. Polina is a trainee psychologist in her second year of training, working towards completing a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology. She works with The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service in Wandsworth.
