Polina Lukanova provides a warm, respectful, and emphatic environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions without feeling judged. She helps the client work through and process difficult feelings, and nurtures the client’s self-understanding. Polina works with the client to establish their strengths and how to draw on them in order to live a more satisfying life. She believes that therapy is a joined process between client and therapist. Through establishing an honest, supportive, and confidential relationship, clients can feel safe to explore and come to understand themselves; finding their own solutions and resolutions in the process.
Having lived in several different countries throughout her life, Polina has a special interest in life transitions and how people cope with change. She understands how difficult change and adjustment may be and how it can lead to feelings of fear and avoidance. She works to identify and work through the feelings associated with change. Polina also specialises in bereavement, having been a bereavement volunteer for Cruse, and has a special interest in anxiety and depression.
Polina is a trainee psychologist working towards completing a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology. She is a member of the BPS and works with The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham. Polina uses a person-centred approach to therapy, which facilitates the person’s understanding of themselves and their world. She has had experience working within East London NHS Foundation Trust mental health services, as well as volunteering for Victim Support and Cruse bereavement care.
