Rebecca Smith provides a safe, warm, supportive and confidential space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, feel heard and accepted for who they are, and receive reflective feedback. She will listen carefully to whatever a client has to say, without judgement, and together they can explore any difficulties, past or present, to help clients gain a greater understanding of themselves, recognise and change unhelpful behaviour patterns, make choices that are right for them and perhaps come to terms with those things that can’t be changed. Rebecca works in a person-centred way and will follow the client rather than lead, offering support through whatever is causing distress in their lives, and helping the client to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships and whatever else they want to bring to the sessions. She believes that therapy can increase self-awareness and self-acceptance and that it has the power to help an individual reach their full potential and live a richer, more fulfilled life.
With a background in journalism, Rebecca has a long-held interest in what makes us tick and a belief in the transformative potential of therapy, and spent seven years working on the magazine Psychologies. She has experience of working with stress and anxiety, anger, relationship difficulties, depression, low self-esteem and confidence issues, grief and transgender issues.
Rebecca is a person-centred counsellor, currently working within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service, and having previously working with NHS patients at a Lambeth GP surgery. Rebecca is a member of UKCP and is in her final year of a BA (Hons) degree in person-centred counselling.
