Sandra Barrett believes in the importance of the client and therapist relationship and the building of trust by working together. She provides a non-judgemental, confidential and supportive environment where clients are treated with respect and sensitivity.
Therapy can offer individuals a space to explore alternative ways of coping with the challenges of life, Sandra has benefitted from personal therapy herself. She is committed to working with clients, at their own pace, to identify how they relate to themselves and to others; by looking at past and present experiences empowering them to be able to make change and find a solution that is right for them. Sandra has an integrative approach which means that she draws on a range of different therapeutic approaches to find ways of helping each of her clients according to their needs.
With a background as a civil servant and, more recently, through her work as a manager in the voluntary sector Sandra has an interest and experience of supporting individuals with work place issues. She helps them to recognise how their feelings, perhaps of powerlessness or being unheard, can lead to patterns of behaviour that cause them difficulties within the workplace. Sandra enables them to identify constructive solution focussed ways forward allowing them to be better able to cope and strategies for avoiding such challenges in the future. Through her work as a Samaritan listening volunteer she also has experience of supporting people presenting with suicidal ideation, stress and anxiety related issues and has a special interest in family and relationships.
Sandra is an integrative counsellor and a member of the BACP. She is currently working towards a diploma in therapeutic counselling. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham.
