Sarai Monk focuses on building a safe and trusting environment where the underlying meaning and causes of your problems can be explored and thought about free of judgment. It may be that things are rooted in the past, or in something more recent. Sarai believes that long lasting change is possible by gaining understanding and insight into your feelings and behaviour, your relationships with others, and moments of significance in your life. A psychodynamic approach focuses on the dynamics that might be keeping you in a way of being that is inhibiting or painful, or stopping you from reaching your potential in life, so that emotional development and long-lasting change can occur.
Sarai has worked with adults from a diverse range of social and ethnic backgrounds, experiencing a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, low mood, poor self-esteem, personality disorders, social anxiety, sexual issues, identity issues, trauma, loss, relationship problems, PTSD, OCD, and abuse. Before becoming a therapist Sarai taught yoga full time for many years, and is an accredited (YAP) senior yoga teacher. She has extensive knowledge of working with mindfulness, somatic symptoms and the link between the mind and body.
Sarai is a psychotherapist and counsellor working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting, and in Raynes Park. She also works as a psychotherapist in the specialist Trauma Service at the Tavistock Clinic and has a special interest in trauma, believing it is a treatable condition that can be healed, not an illness often misdiagnosed as Bipolar or Borderline Personality disorders.
Sarai has an MA in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the University of Essex and trained in Inter-cultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the world renowned Tavistock and Portman Clinic. She also has a certificate in Counselling Skills from The WPF. Sarai is registered with the BACP.
