Saundra Rhoden is a qualified Gestalt Counsellor, who is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is currently working towards gaining accreditation with the BACP. She has experience of providing therapy within the voluntary sector with adults and young people. She works with The Awareness Centre, as part of the low cost counselling service in Clapham.
Saundra recognises that the decision to find a Counsellor is not easy. She is able to offer a safe space for clients to explore how they think, and feel when faced with difficulties. As a Gestalt Counsellor, she is able to draw upon an approach that is holistic, exploring the mind, body, spirit connection to support emotional healing. She acknowledges the unique experiences that shape the client’s thoughts and feelings, and taps into their inner resources with empathy and understanding.
Saundra is non judgemental in her approach, coming from a background in Social Work with adults who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health and substance misuse concerns. This experience has helped to shape her understanding of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice. She is able to help clients come to an awareness of what is really being experienced rather than what they interpret it to be. She has worked with clients around themes of low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, abuse, self-harm and eating disorders. She works to support clients toward developing a healthier relationship with self to enable an improvement in the quality of their relationships. Saundra is keen to develop her skills and learn new approaches that can help to address relationship difficulties. She is currently training with Tavistock Relationships, in London, to provide Psychosexual Therapy to individuals and couples. She aims to promote an atmosphere of openness to discuss concerns, and resolve conflict. As a trainee Psychosexual Therapist, she will maintain an informed and ethical practice as a member of the College of Sexual Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
