Shola Alabi is an Integrative counsellor using a number of different methods in her work which draw on a variety of humanistic therapeutic approaches. She believes that each person is unique and has value. She uses the methods that best suit the needs of each client. She builds rapport and works in an empathetic and understanding way, aiming to provide a safe and non-judgemental and supportive environment for clients. Shola encourages her clients to be themselves and communicate in their own way. Shola enjoys working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds showing cultural sensitivity and acceptance. She encourages clients to explore their issues of concern and be supported in making the changes they wish to make. She is able to assist clients in gaining greater understanding of themselves and insight into motivations and patterns of behaviour which may help them to make the choices that will enhance their wellbeing.
Shola has a professional background in Human Resources, Mediation and Coaching with qualifications and substantial experience in these areas. She has also previously worked as a volunteer community mediator for a number of years dealing with neighbourhood disputes and is experienced in dealing with conflict. She has an understanding of the stresses and pressures that people face in the workplace and within neighbourhoods and how they can lead to unhelpful coping strategies. Shola helps clients to build confidence and positive self-esteem and develop ways of coping that enhance wellbeing. She has a particular interest in life transitions and likes to work with clients from all backgrounds.
Shola is a trainee counsellor working towards an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling and as a BACP student member, adheres to their code of ethics. Shola works with The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service at a GP surgery in Lambeth.
