Sundraj Sreenivasan believes the therapeutic relationship is the key to facilitating change and growth. He provides an empathic and compassionate environment where the client is valued and respected. Sundraj is an integrative counsellor who tailors his approach, depending on the client’s needs and what they wish to focus on. This means the therapy may explore early childhood experiences to help clients gain insight into how that may be unconsciously influencing present relationships. Or it could mean learning how thoughts may be influencing how you feel and what you do. Bringing this deeper understanding of themselves into awareness will help clients reach their full potential to live a more fulfilling life.
Sundraj worked as a publicist within the music industry for over twenty years. He worked closely with individual clients on both professional and personal aspects of their lives. This experience taught him how vital confidentiality, trust and integrity were in establishing strong working relationships. During this time he also managed a team so has an understanding on how stressful and demanding the workplace can be and how this can impact an individual’s personal life.
Working at the Samaritans has taught Sundraj how challenging life can be for some, especially when they are suffering. Whether it’s from a relationship break up, loneliness, anxiety or feeling suicidal, this role has shown Sundraj how empowering it can be for a person being offered a non-judgemental listener who understands life from their perspective.
Sundraj is working towards his Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling. He works on an open-ended basis for The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting. His theoretical approaches are person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). He is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Sundraj is also able to offer therapy in both Tamil and English.
