Tobias Short is a relational and integrative practitioner. This means an emphasis is placed on the relationship between client and counsellor. He provides an empathic, non-judgemental, safe, respectful and confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. He works with people to make positive changes in their lives, helping them identify and draw out their inner resources so that they can achieve a deeper understanding of themselves, relate better with others and live more happily. As an integrative practitioner Tobias draws upon a wide range of approaches. These include humanistic, psychodynamic, systemic, narrative and cognitive behavioural approaches. These approaches are tailored to meet the needs of each client. Tobias is committed to a collaborative process where clients are recognised as experts in their own lives but would benefit from additional support.
Tobias has worked in a Psychology Team in the NHS for the last 5 years. This specialist role working with people experiencing mental health difficulties that have neuro-developmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition and genetic conditions such as Down Syndrome. He has also worked in a private counselling and psychotherapy service in West London and continues to work at a university counselling service. Previous to this he has worked both in the charity sector and for local government. He specialises in anxiety, low mood, relational difficulties, trauma and stress.
Tobias has a BSc (Honours) in Psychology an MSc in Clinical Applications of Psychology and is currently studying for a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Integrative Psychotherapy. He is a member of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS) and a Trainee Member of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP). Tobias currently works within The Awareness Centre’s Low-Cost Counselling Service in Tooting.
